The Bhutanese love their chilies. So when you sit down to dinner look carefully for those little red and green pieces that pack a wallop.
The meals in Bhutan are quite hardy. Potatoes and rice are almost always served. Yak meat is worth trying; it's a bit tough but has a decent taste. Chicken is served on a limited basis. Pork and beef dishes in a Bhutanese style curry are more common. Don't miss the fiddlehead ferns. You may be offered butter tea—but it is an acquired taste and you may have to become Bhutanese to acquire it! The capital, THIMPHU has a selection of different restaurants with a limited number of cultural cuisines. If you can't live without an espresso, try Seasons Pizzeria. |
