If you have an adventuresome spirit and are game for climbing up and down much of the day, sometimes on rather steep slopes, you will not want to miss a trekking adventure in Bhutan. It is a wonderful way to learn about and enjoy Bhutanese village life. You may be lucky enough to stay in a farmer's house! Experienced guides offer in-depth teachings about the ecology and also point out spiritual landmarks like natural springs and rocks that are revered as holy places. Be sure to try a Bhutanese outdoor hot tub after a long day hiking‹just be wary of the hot coals near your feet.
If you have issues with altitude, look into your route beforehand as some of the passes, even by car, can reach 3,750 meters above sea level. Trekking can take you to higher than 5,000 meters. |
